President Obama has that stingy, tit-for-tat kinda love that dysfunctional relationships are made of.
In a campaign stop on Wednesday in Raleigh, NC, the president was explaining the American Jobs Act to the audience at North Carolina State University. During his speech someone shouted out their love for the president.
Read the exchange between the president and a “fan,” as taken from the official White House transcript as he discussed the economy and putting people back to work:
AUDIENCE MEMBER: I love you, Barack!
THE PRESIDENT: I love you back. (Applause.) But first — but if you love me — if you love me, you got to help me pass this bill. (Applause.) If you love me, you got to help me pass this bill. (Applause.) It starts with your help.
What kind of crazy, mixed-up mess is this? If you love me, then you gotta help Congress do their jobs? LOL! Umm ok.
I have one for you, Mr. President. How about Congress do their own jobs without constantly being asked? There’s an idea!
I know he was using hyperbole, but still.
Mr. President, my love for mankind is unconditional. I’m not going to make you buy me a shiny new car or get me my own talk show. However, if you feel inclined to do either, then have your way. But, I don’t buy into that “he only loves me if he hits me…” kind of psycho talk.
